There is no denying the fact that there exists an interface between Entrepreneurship and a robust economy.
The world renowned Business Consultant and Public speaker, Brian Tracy substantiated this when he maintained that entrepreneurs were spark plugs and occupy a central position in any market economy.
This is why Nigerian Entrepreneurs are asking for enabling environment for them to contribute immensely to economic development in the country. They made this known in Akure the Ondo state capital at the commemoration of 2017 World Entrepreneurship Day
The day which is observed to creating awareness for entrepreneurship is also meant to remind the world that entrepreneurs are key to socio-economic development of any nation.
Some budding entrepreneurs who spoke with Radio Nigeria said the opportunities abound for entrepreneurs in Nigeria but the enabling environment and infrastructures are lacking.
One of them, Mr Wumi Adeniyi said the major problem confronting his business is the epileptic power supply in the country. Mr Adeniyi explained that if Electricity problem is solved many businesses will come up and the issue of recession will become a thing of the past.
On her part, Miss Bukola Olanipekun who is a trained Caterer wants government to address issue of funding of Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs, SMES. She noted that Nigerians are hard working and creative but are deficient in the area of funding to realize their dreams. She expressed displeasure in situations whereby the government will make available funds but bureaucratic bottlenecks and selfish government officials will make it impossible for those who really needed such funds to access them. Miss Olanipekun who commended government’s initiative of creating a data base on Nigerian unemployed graduates however wants government to embrace transparency in reaching out to them and also work on empowering them financially as it is the best government can do by ensuring they become entrepreneurs
An expert in Entrepreneurial Finance and Dean Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, Professor Tomola Obamuyi called on government to put up enabling environment for Entrepreneurs to really occupy that central position they belong in any nation’s economy. Professor Obamuyi who berated government’s lip service to provision of such needed infrastructures said lack of adequate security of life and property and poor electricity is a big problem the present government administration must tackle.
However, an expert in Agro-preneurship and former Chairman, Ondo State Wealth Creation Agency, Mrs Bolanle Olafunmiloye wants Entrepreneurs to begin to look the way of Agriculture. She said Agriculture has gone beyond farming alone noting that every aspect of it is business oriented. She called on government to give incentives, land and funding to young graduates to make Agriculture attractive to them. Mrs Olafunmiloye believed that diversifying of the nation’s economy to Agriculture is possible and realizable as Nigeria is blessed with rich land and climate to sustain the development.
Other respondents who spoke with Radio Nigeria belived that security, funding and improved electricity are central to turning Nigeria from consuming nation to a producing one.
